A Curated Encounter with Mandarin Oriental Mayfair
Mayfair, London
08 July 2025
Opera Gallery is pleased to announce a cultural partnership with Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London, situated in one of London's most prestigious neighboyrhoods at the crossroads of art, fashion, and culture—within walking distance of Opera Gallery's London location on New Bond Street.
The inaugural installation, displayed throughout the hotel's public spaces, showcases a thoughtfully curated selection of works by Opera Gallery artists, including Lee Gil Rae, Manolo Valdés, Seo Young-Deok and Pieter Obels. Each piece has been selected to complement Mandarin Oriental Mayfair's design and atmosphere, paying homage to the natural world while creating an immersive visual experience for guests and visitors alike.
Lee Gil Rae's Millennium Pine Tree 2019-7 will be returning to the hotel alongside Millennium Pine Tree 202-24. These captivating pieces beautifully capture the essence of the artist's chosen subject: the pine tree.
Seo Young-Deok's powerful piece Meditation is a poetic, large-scale depiction of a face, utilising metal chains that create a striking contrast between human features and industrial materials.
Manolo Valdés' sculptural work presents editions from this celebrated series, the iconic Iris sculptures—a feminine face adorned with golden butterflies.
Finally, Pieter Obels' abstract and fluid forms echo the movement and materiality of the hotel's sculptural elements, creating organic shapes despite their metallic composition.
Located at the crossroads of art, fashion and culture in one of London’s most desirable neighbourhoods, the new Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is a refined retreat where contemporary elegance meets discreet luxury. Set on Hanover Square, the hotel features 50 luxurious rooms and suites, along with a collection of private residences. Perfectly positioned to explore the city’s most prestigious galleries, museums and designer boutiques, it offers an exceptional cultural and lifestyle experience. Guests can dine at the UK’s first Akira Back restaurant, where bold modern Japanese cuisine takes centre stage, or at Dosa by Akira Back, a Michelin-starred 14-seat restaurant celebrating contemporary Korean dishes. ABar Rooftop serves artistic cocktails with sweeping views across the capital, while The Spa at Mandarin Oriental provides a tranquil escape, complete with a 25-metre indoor pool, holistic treatments and cutting-edge fitness facilities.
"At Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, we've always envisioned the hotel as more than a place to stay—it's a destination for inspiration," says Hemal Jain, General Manager, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. "Our collaboration with Opera Gallery not only reflects our commitment to craftsmanship and cultural storytelling, but also celebrates the creative synergy between art, fashion and culture that defines our neighbourhood. We are equally proud to work with the local community in shaping a space that reflects and enhances the artistic spirit of Mayfair."
This partnership runs through September 2025.
