Opera Gallery seeks a Press and communications Manager to join its London team. The position is based in London and reports to the Communications Director. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-4 years’ related experience in PR.
Full time
Salary 45-60k per year, depending on experience.
Press and Media Relations
- Work closely with the Communications Director and managers based in the Paris gallery as well as the Press & Communications Manager in NYC on global communication strategies
- Plan and implement strategic international press campaigns to promote the gallery’s London exhibition programme, related events, gallery announcements and involvement in art fairs
- A creative and informed approach to pitching for reviews, art market coverage, features and listings to support the London gallery’s exhibition programme – including for media collaborations relating to
gallery events, leveraging the gallery’s marketing assets with the media (videos, photography, live streams, artist interview content)
- Nurturing and developing relationships with press, TV, radio and web contacts in local, national and international media, spanning print, online and broadcast, and including regular contact and meetings
- Maintain and update extensive press list database; develop tailored press lists to support PR campaigns and monitor/flag new press contacts for the team
- Significantly contributing to communication materials related to the gallery, including writing press releases, media alerts and invites
- Responding to varied media requests including images, as well as monitoring media coverage, updating the team and managing press clippings database for London
- Manage journalist briefings, photo calls/ press breakfasts and various events
- Maintain communications planner/ event calendar updated with deadlines of materials to be issued and ensuring communications deadlines are met
- Liaise with museum press offices and PR agencies as required
- Represent the gallery at events, as required. And help organize and manage events and programming at the gallery
Digital Communications and Content
- Liaising with social media manager for content (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter...etc.), e-blasts and third-party partners (i.e.advertisers, distributors, Artsy, Artnet, etc.)
- Input on global social media schedule as relates to Opera Gallery UK activity and corporate goals
- Writing and formatting press e-mail communications via Mailchimp (press releases, preview invitations, event invitations, general news announcements)
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree (Liberal Arts, Art History, Marketing or Communication (or related fields)
- At least 3+ years of experience working in the PR/comms department at a museum or gallery and/or PR agency
- Excellent written and communication skills, as well as analytical organisational and interpersonal skills
- Interest and excellent knowledge of the visual arts with an awareness of current art world trends
- Working knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign, Microsoft Office and Mac OS X
- Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and writing
- Extremely organised and detail-oriented
- Literacy in media with strong analytical skills
- Experience of working in an international company is preferred
