Niki de Saint Phalle - The 1980s and 1990s: Art Running Free
Les Abattoirs, Musée - Frac Occitanie Toulouse
07 October 2022 - 23
March 2023
Les Abattoirs, Musée - Frac Occitanie Toulouse are pleased to present an exhibition dedicated to the French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle (1930 - 2002). For the first time, the exhibition focuses on the 1980s and 1990s, a lesser-known period that follows the 1960s and 1970s, made famous by the Tirs and Nanas and by de artist's proximity to New Realism. The 1980s and 1990s, however, are a testament to Niki de Saint Phalle freedom of expression, her feminism, her attachment to nature and her revolt against all forms of injustice. It was during these years that the artist made a commitment to the public by creating works for the public space, such as the Stravinsky Fountain with Jean Tinguely in front of the Centre Georges Pompidou and the IRCAM, or the Tarot Garden in Italy, to name but a few.
The exhibition will be on view from 7 October 2022 to 23 March 2023.
