Matisse. Cahiers d’art, le tournant des années 30
Musée de l’Orangerie, Paris
01
March - 29 May 2023
In 1930, Matisse left France for a trip to Tahiti, thus voluntarily marking a pause in his creation and initiating a turning point in his work. Matisse. Cahiers d’art, le tournant des années 30 looks back at this decisive decade.
It is through the prism of Cahiers d'art, a major avant-garde magazine created by Christian Zervos in 1926, that the exhibition approaches Matisse's work in the 1930s.
Benefiting from exceptional loans, from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Matisse Museum in Nice, the exhibition presents several works by Matisse, very rarely exhibited in France. Sculptures, objects, drawings, engravings, paintings, as well as recent photographic prints, archives, film fragments and issues of Cahiers d'art give an account of the artist's production throughout the inter-war period.
The exhibition will be on view from March 1, to May 29, 2023.
