LOL - Laugh Out Loud

In a special collaboration with the legendary French department store Galeries Lafayette, Opera Gallery – one of the largest and most respected gallery chains in the world – is delighted to present a group exhibition of artists, titled “LOL – Laugh Out Loud”. This exhibition presents a selection of works by Liu Dao, Xiao Bai and Yue Minjun that share similar spirits of presenting smiley faces or embracing fun creative ideas. Bringing extraordinary artist talents that carry vibrant colours and cheerful figures onto different art forms, the “LOL – Laugh Out Loud” concept is to bring audience all kinds of pleasure and surprises of appreciating contemporary art.

Liu Dao is a Shanghai-based art collective founded in 2007. Combining modern technology with traditional Chinese art, their works are electronic and interactive, depicted on cutting-edge LED screens. The group makes a valuable contribution to the development of contemporary new media art in China.

Xiao Bai was born in 1971 in France, now works and lives in Beijing. His iconic creation of “Mickey never down” draws inspiration from the benign and brave Mickey to unfold ideas of unfailing zeal, confidence and faith. The works have been shown in France and across China.

Yue Minjun was born in 1962 in Heilongjiang, China. Graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Hebei Normal University, he is best known for his oil portraits depicting his own laughing figure in various settings. His iconic works has gained him great international acclaim, establishing him as one of the masters of contemporary Chinese art.
