Museum Exhibition

Basquiat Soundtracks
Musée de la Musique – Cité de la Musique-Philarmonie, Paris
06 April - 30 July 2023

The Philharmonie de Paris is organising the first exhibition devoted to Jean-Michel Basquiat's powerful relationship with music.

Paintings, drawings, installations, music and film are all brought together to recreate the overexcited atmosphere of this pivotal period in the 1970s and 1980s, when New York was the epicentre of an underground musical revolution, marked by new wave, no wave and the birth of hip-hop. And Basquiat was one of its major witnesses.

This exhibition is presented as an immersive experience of the places and sounds that shaped Basquiat's career and fuelled his inspiration. Complete with rare archives and previously unseen audiovisual documents, Basquiat Soundtracks puts into perspective the work of the American painter, for whom music was a common thread.

The exhibition will be on view from April 6, to July 30, 2023.
