Xevi Solà
Alongside 'La France de Bernard Buffet', Opera Gallery is delighted to present a solo exhibition dedicated to Xevi Solà, an artist celebrated for his emotionally charged, cinematic approach to figurative painting.
Working instinctively and with great immediacy, Solà transforms photographic sources, ranging from fashion editorials to film stills, into strikingly atmospheric portraits. His figures, often slender and poised in moments of suspension, are less about likeness than about the resonance of gesture, mood, and presence.
The exhibition brings together recent acrylic canvases alongside intimate oil portraits, revealing Solà’s shift from close, luminous studies to larger compositions. Works such as Backstage and In a Hurry capture the tension of performance and pause, while pieces like Aurora or Sadie embody the quiet intensity of psychological portraiture.
Drawing on cultural imagery yet stripping it of context, Solà creates what he calls “emotional landscapes”—paintings that suspend time and invite us to linger in moments of vulnerability, distance, and theatricality.
