Pieter Obels
Opera Gallery Geneva is proud to present a solo exhibition by Dutch sculptor Pieter Obels. Working in Corten steel, Obels transforms one of the hardest materials into something unexpectedly fluid and alive. His sculptures are quiet meditations on balance, rhythm, and the subtle poetry that arises where strength meets grace.
Born in Kruisland in 1968 and based in Tilburg, the Netherlands, Obels shapes each work by hand in the solitude of his studio, guided by intuition and an acute sense of rhythm. Under his touch, steel softens, its weight yielding to movement, its rigidity to flow. The warm, earthy tones of Corten steel lend each sculpture a natural harmony, allowing it to engage effortlessly with light, space, and its surroundings. This harmony stems as much from Obels’ attunement to his medium as from the material itself: a dialogue between maker and matter that gives each work its quiet equilibrium.
Obels’ sculptures seem to breathe. Every curve carries the trace of gesture and time, reminding us that art’s true purpose is not merely to shape matter, but to refine perception, revealing that grace can dwell within strength, and poetry within the very heart of steel.
