Manolo Valdés in New York
Opera Gallery New York is honored to present a solo exhibition celebrating the internationally acclaimed painter and sculptor Manolo Valdés. Fascinated by matter and its properties, the artist gives it life in an unparalleled way. Aluminum, bronze, resin, stainless-steel, burlap, wood, oil, mirror, alabaster… all these materials gather to reveal the classical theme of the female portrait under a new light.
Conceived as an ode to color, portraiture and iconography, the exhibition draws heavily on Valdés' stunning interpretation of art history and is a glorious tribute to masterpieces by El Greco, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Constantin Brancusi among others.
Using a broad range of raw materials Valdés subverts, reinvents or reinvigorates familiar images by masters from another era.
