Daniella Portillo was born in 1997 in San Salvador and now resides in Jersey City.
Her paintings delve into the intricacies of space, time, and memory. In the work, poetic haziness prevails over topographical detail and refracted memories of El Salvador, with a focus on the distortion of physical reality by memory. Ranging from pastoral to urban environments infused with tropical warmth, through techniques involving scraping and deteriorating the painting surface. This approach allows her to create images that evoke a sense of the sublime, revealing geological features while shrouding them in a misty atmosphere. Viewers are left to interpret whether they see waves, land expanses, storms, sulphuric landscapes, or a blend of them all.
