Opera Gallery is thrilled to present André Brasilier in Hong Kong. To celebrate his 90th birthday this year, we will be showcasing a selection of works which reflect upon and celebrate his momentous career. André Brasilier in Hong Kong is a solo exhibition that focuses on natural beauty taking inspiration from his love for the equestrian world and his wife and muse – Chantal.

Converging a world of abstraction, Fauvism and Expressionism, Brasilier’s distinct style has become instantly recognisable. Brasilier depicts a carefree, simplified world where reoccurring themes of horses, nature, music and the feminine form prove to be a constant source of inspiration.

Set against paired down backdrops, the artist draws from sources including language, music and colour, in an attempt to create a natural beauty untouched by daily trivialities, arguably, making Brasilier a Romantic anomaly within the often cut and thrust contemporary zeitgeist.

Brasilier does not attempt to imitate form, but instead expresses emotion, human intimacy and experience through modest hues and idiosyncratic techniques; he wishes to paint not what exists but what could exist, to delve beyond prosaic realities towards the utopian and aspirational.

A lifelong commitment to his art has earned Brasilier numerous awards and invitations to exhibit in world-class museums including the Musée Picasso-Château Grimaldi in Antibes, France and at the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

It is with great pride that we continue this long established relationship and present an extraordinary collection of works showcasing the love and devotion of André Brasilier and the extraordinary world that he has created.
