EXHIBITIONS

Benoit Lemercier lives in Paris and in Eauze. He was born in 1965.

In 1981, at the age of 16, he realized his first conceptual drawing entitled « Periodic Classification of Elements ». This work, made with Indian ink on paper, reproduces the table of the scientist Mendeleïv, ordering chemical elements in increasing atomic mass.

This drawing was the starting point of his artistic activity. Since then, he has tried to comprehend the mysteries of the universe in their complexity and their singularity. He created plastic forms on our vision scale, imagined through more advanced scientific concepts.

In 2001, Benoit Lemercier created an art movement called "Mathematism". This manifesto is meant to highlight the predominance of mathematics in the functioning of the universe.

In 2004, in order to make his sculptures in steel, he created a workshop of metalwork in the Gers.

Benoit Lemercier’s works are present in the collections of French national Fund for Contemporary Art (Ministry of Culture) and in big private collections in France (Collection Société Générale, Collection Ar’Milin, Collection Bouvet-Labubay...), in Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Greece, Great Britain, United-States and Russia.
