Canadian-born artist, Sylvain Tremblay began his artistic career at the Graphic Art College in Quebec in 1984. With the dab of his brush, Tremblay creates beautiful ornamentations through elongation of the figures striving upward, and deliberate obscuration of the human face into shadows and shards.

With an ever-maturing artistic voice, Tremblay’s style is defined by creating pieces that draw inspiration from the obvious. Tremblay’s monochromatic shapes and immortal figures impose a tense duality between the still life and the 3-dimensional world.

Using the materials as a metaphor, Tremblay’s work provides the viewer with a dynamic experience, one that is both viscerally introspective and physically reflective of the inaccessible human spirit.

Tremblay has constructed his own visual language, with a recognizable vocabulary of figures, patterns, and the usage of varnish, which adds an extra dimension of luminosity to his work. With a somber earth tone palette, he manages to create an overall sense of peaceful optimism.

Sylvain Tremblay’s work has been exhibited globally.

Sylvain Tremblay’s energy and his visually challenging work has made him a remarkable artist of his generation. He was selected to represent Canada at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Under the theme The Living City: Inclusive, Sustainable, Creative, his work will be presented at the Canada Pavilion from May to October 2010. His work consistently recasts underlying questions about the existence, the environment and their fragility.
