Cristina Moroño was born in Madrid in 1973. She studied at The University of Fine Arts in Madrid (Universidad de Bellas Artes) and graduated with honors with a major in printmaking. She also holds a Masters Degree in Fine Arts.

In 2003, she moved to New York where she studied photography at the International Center of Photography and silkscreen techniques at the Parsons School of Design.

Morono’s most recent artwork brings together printmaking and painting. The mix of images from these two very separate artistic techniques comes from the necessity to look for a different form of expression. They come to represent the flight of time, and the fleeting of our lives, creating a symbiosis between the human body (the photography) and flowers (the print). Similarly, it is her way of seeing how nature, objects and people fade around us, without anyone noticing most of the time.

“The gestures and volumes confirm and accept the passing of time, the straight line represents strength, the energy of life. The lines I draw represent my life, my way of understanding and registering the world around me.”

Morono received several prestigious awards from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Madrid in 1999 and 2001, and the Spanish Government of Comunidad de Madrid in 2000 and 2005. In addition, she was granted several fellowships at the Joan Miro Foundation in Mallorca, Spain.

She recently received the prize awarded by the Spanish Government of Comunidad de Madrid and ESTAMPA to the "Best Artist ESTAMPA 2007" and the prize "Hotel Puerta America," where you can see some of her artworks, conferred by DeArte Fundation, in 2008.

Her work is represented in numerous public and private collections such as, the National Library of Madrid, and the City Museum of Madrid. Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows throughout Spain, France, and New York.
