WANG Guang-Yi
Born in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China in 1956, Wang Huangyi was graduated from the Oil Paintings Department of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, now he lives and works in Beijing.
Wang GuangYi, a famous Chinese artist, is belong to the category of Chinese contemporary art termed Political Pop: his paintings appropriated the visual tropes of the propaganda of the Cultural Revolution, color style of American Pop.
Wang Guangyi was focused on painting “Great Criticism”, a series of paintings motivated by his perceptive understanding of commercial society. His paintings expressed that imported commodities from the West had entered China in large quantities in the 90ies, and to the artist it seemed that this was an invasion of culture.
