Vincent Poole's career began with a Foundation Course at Goldsmith's College, London and a Sculpture Degree at Kingston. After which he spent the next ten years working in the creative departments of London advertising agencies, a period which has influenced him throughout his career.
Advertising, interiors, furniture design and collage. Vincent Poole's interests are eclectic and his continued curiosity in design has led to some fascinating frictions, such as the use of brands and advertising imagery in his collages, or broken matt black slate alongside polished, chrome cast iron in his furniture.
Vincent?s signature collages ride the cusp between graphics and fine art by linking specific London locations with the people, brands, objects and marketing materials associated with that area, whether it?s the shabby Old Kent Road or exclusive Knighbridge. They have found appeal with both national and international clients, who want to acquire one of his demographic reflections of London. « London has an energy ? which I really missed », says Vincent who spent 12 years in Frankfurt running his own interiors business. On returning to the capital in 2004, he immediately began photographing specific London locations and scanning images from magazines bought in those areas. Back at his south London studio, he began to experiment, printing his material onto different media including transparency film (acetates). Vincent?s use of vibrant color and the diffusion of light through the clear surfaces continue in another series of collages, which incorporates brightly colored translucent Perspex and black and white photographies.
Vincent?s lateral perspective throughout both his two and three-dimensional pieces results in work that is often provocative, sometimes topical, occasionally amusing and frequently unexpected.
