KÉLYNE
Kélyne was born in Haipong, Vietnam in 1955. Her childhood experiences in this alluringly lush land were to later become an oriental legacy that inspires much of her art - both thematically and stylistically.
Her paintings are mostly concerned with women, depicting their diverse emotional states. As if lost in a world of their own, their Klimt-like stance exudes subtle sensuality. The figures, though seemingly static, intertwine quietly and tenderly.
Her transfixed figures appear to reside in vacuum as the artist prefers to concentrate on the expressiveness of their bodies. Kélyne breaks away from 'classical' art traditions and explores the modes of simplified form and expressive colour. The beauty of her sensuous subjects is enhanced by the ?ornamentalisation? of their clothes.
Kélyne definitely possesses a superior gift for sensitivity, inviting us into her world of spirituality and sensuality by the use of lucid colours and stylisation. As she places paramount importance on the spiritual quality of her works, Kélyne immerses in reflection before starting a painting, and hence, her relatively low output.
Kélyne is currently living in Paris and teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts.
