GAUTIER Marie-Madeleine
BORN IN 1956 IN FRANCE, STUDIED IN THE SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS IN PARIS
SHE HAVE DONE EXHIBITIONS IN EUROPE, USA AND ASIA
M.M. Gautier is not like the artists from the 20th century who usually like to interpret, comment and criticise the important events of the century, the racism, the violence, the absurdity of the modern world...
M.M. Gautier prefers to represent some calm and peaceful personnages, shown most of the time in an every day life attitude. Her works are sincere, full of sensitiveness, and absolutely poetic.
She believes in the language of the body, being convinced that the shape of the body have a strong expressive power, and all her work is based on this idea. She extends the shapes, represents her personnages with a little tiny head, creates some sculptures with extreme feminine forms full of curves and sensual shapes...
Gautier creates mainly some feminine personnages, very round and very "fertile" and yet light because she likes to represent them in extended shape, long and graceful. She prefers the smooth texture, which together with the round shapes, invite the spectator to touch the sculptors and stroke them.
The artists with whom we can compare M. M. Gautier's works are the greatest sculptors from this century: Giacometi for her long and stretched personnages and Henry Moore for the smooth and round aspect.
