ILANA GAL

Born in Israel, 1968 and lives in Giv'at Nili
Studied graphic design in "Emek Izrael" college

Paints since 1995, under the tutorial of the great Israeli artist Edwin Salomon

Ilana is working with acrylic on canvas, mainly large scale paintings. The works are colorful, made of many layers of paint.

Ilana always used natural objects in her works. In this period - the inspiration comes from her childrens paintings - figures, animals, unrealistic forms. She found her way and style by self-experience and by observing works of painters she admires - Lea Nikel, Dubuffet, Basquiat, Karl Apel and more.

"….I never know what will come out of the painting when I start putting the first layer. Every painting is a new adventure to me - I work spontaneously, without no plan. The work with acrylic paints and different technics creates a complexed texture made of all the layers.
Sometimes I start with a color, sometimes with an object. There are many paintings underneath the final work. You don't always see them but you can feel them. Sometimes during the work - it is a piece from one of the underneath layers that pops out and leads me to the final result"
