BERLAND Ruben
Considered as one of the masters of the Cuban plastic, Ruben Berland imposes his technical dominance over any other demand. Tempted by the natural world and dazzled by the landscape, the artist identifies himself with his aesthetics, in a way that will not allow him to be indifferent to the richness of forms, colors and lights that his emotional surroundings offer him.
Devoted to a reality recreated in very personal versions of his work, Ruben reflects in his paintings the landscape of his native country. Committed to the forms of Nature and their deepest significance, the artist allows himself to be dazzled by the image and paints it more like a symbol than a reflection of reality, in a transfer of his emotional sense.
Ruben Berland didn't always paint landscapes. He stared his pictorial trajectory with portraits, mostly nudes over landscapes. “My interest in landscapes kept growing, that is why my work is not stereotypical or copied: I always wanted to achieve an identity, as I did with the nudes and surrealist portraits,” explains the artist.
